China renews support to two-state solution
BEIJING, July 25 (KUNA) -- China looks forward to the planned UN high-level meeting to realize the two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, said Foreign Ministry Spokesman Guo Jiakun. The Palestine question remains the core of conflict in the Middle East region, he told a press conference in Beijing on Friday. Guo was commenting on the announcement by French President Emmanuel Macron yesterday that Paris would recognize the State of Palestine during a UN General Assembly session in September. Beijing is ready to work with the international community to resolve the conflict and alleviate the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza Strip, the state-run Xinhua news agency quoted him as saying. Beijing is also working for a durable and comprehensive settlement to the Palestine cause, Guo reaffirmed. Two days ago, China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Fu Cong said that international peace would remain unlikely without stability in the Middle East. A lasting peace in the region can only be achieved through the two-state solution, Fu told a UN Security Council session. He urged the Israeli occupation forces to halt their operations in Gaza immediately, ensure safe and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid, and honor their obligations under the international humanitarian law. UK PM: recognition of Palestinian state must be part of wider plan
LONDON, July 25 (KUNA) - Prime Minister Keir Starmer underlined Friday that the recognition of a Palestinian state must be part of wider plan which ultimately results in a two-state solution and lasting security for Palestinians and Israelis. In a statement on the situation in Gaza, the UK leader said alongside "our closest allies, I am working on a pathway to peace in the region, focused on the practical solutions that will make a real difference to the lives of those that are suffering in this war." "That pathway will set out the concrete steps needed to turn the ceasefire so desperately needed, into a lasting peace. Recognition of a Palestinian state has to be one of those steps. I am unequivocal about that," he said. "But it must be part of a wider plan which ultimately results in a two-state solution and lasting security for Palestinians and Israelis." He added that this is the way to ensure it is a tool of maximum utility to improve the lives of those who are suffering - which of course, will always be our ultimate goal. Starmer affirmed that the appalling scenes in Gaza are unrelenting. "The continued captivity of hostages, the starvation and denial of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people, the increasing violence from extremist settler groups, and Israel's disproportionate military escalation in Gaza are all indefensible". Trump regrets withdrawal of US delegation from Gaza peace talks
WASHINGTON, July 25 (KUNA) -- US President Donald J. Trump said the withdrawal of US mediators from the talks on truce in Gaza Strip was regrettable. Speaking to reporters at the White House on Friday, he blamed the Palestinian movement Hamas for what he called lack of desire to reach a ceasefire-hostage release deal with Israel. He recalled his earlier statement that the talks on release of the last 10 or 20 hostages would be the toughest. President Trump made the comments one day after US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff stated that the Trump administration decided to bring home its team from the ceasefire talks in Doha, Qatar, for consultation.
